Kaluma tells Sifuna to shape up or ship out in fresh attack

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has told the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna to either shape up or ship out in a fresh attack.
Kaluma, in a statement shared via his official X account on Sunday, May 11, 2025, vowed to protect Cabinet Secretaries from the Nyanza region from the attacks meted on them by Sifuna.
Kaluma, who has been at odds with Sifuna over his stance on broad-based government, argued that ODM stakeholders had made Sifuna the party SG to speak on resolved party positions such as the Memorandum of Understanding between the Orange party and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
”My brother Sifuna must know we made him Secretary of @TheODMparty to speak on resolved party positions such as the Memorandum of Understanding between @UDAPartyKe and @TheODMparty, which lays the foundation for the Broad Based Government,” Kaluma stated.

Kaluma faults Sifuna
He went ahead to fault Sifuna for attacking and failing to recognise the broad-based government while at the same time defending the MoU between UDA and ODM.
According to Kaluma, it is wrong for Sifuna to argue that the ODM party is not part of the government when it holds several critical ministries and departments of government.

He further warned Sifuna that the Orange party members will not allow him to attack Treasury CS John Mbadi and his Energy counterpart Opiyo Wandayi again.
”You can’t support the MoU and attack the BBG at the same time, my friend! In which government are you if not the Government of Kenya? Who do you think you can dupe that @TheODMparty is not in government when the party holds all those critical ministries and departments of government? You can’t be eating and vomiting at the same time. You are not more articulate than Namwamba. We will not allow you to abuse the experts again – never, ever attack Hon. Mbadi and Hon. Wandayi. The targeted attacks on sons of Nyanza serving in government must stop! You either shape up or ship out!” Kaluma warned.
Kaluma’s attacks on Sifuna
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Kaluma launched another attack on Sifuna over his stance on the ODM party’s role in President William Ruto’s government.
In a statement shared via his X account, Kaluma accused Sifuna of denying the political reality, arguing that ODM is already part of the Kenya Kwanza administration, following the formal agreement between the two parties.

According to him, Sifuna’s position contradicts the realities of a presidential system of governance, where a formal opposition does not exist once a party aligns itself with the ruling coalition.
He pointed out the irony in Sifuna’s stance, highlighting the fact that the Nairobi senator had access to the MoU between ODM and the UDA, yet seemingly failed to recognise ODM’s active role within the government.
“My brother Edwin Sifuna, who read the Memorandum of Understanding between UDA and ODM, is not aware that ODM is in government! So, where is ODM in this presidential system where there is no opposition?” Kaluma questioned.
