Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has paid a glowing tribute to mothers across Kenya, recognising their pivotal role in society as the nation celebrates Mother’s Day.

In a heartfelt statement posted on his social media pages on Sunday, May 11, 2025, Murkomen described mothers as “the glue that holds our society together,” emphasising their contribution to building strong families and secure communities.

“God created us in His likeness; a mother raises us in her fondness,” Murkomen stated.

He extended his Mother’s Day wishes not only to biological mothers but also to all maternal figures who contribute to raising children and supporting families across Kenya.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and maternal figures. You’re the glue that holds our society together,” he stated.

Murkomen also recognised the connection between stable family units and broader societal harmony, implicitly acknowledging how maternal influence contributes to social cohesion and national development.

“I extend heartfelt wishes to all the wonderful mothers of our nation. Your strength, love, and sacrifice continue to shape strong families and safe communities,” he remarked.

“You are our heroes. We honour and celebrate you,” he concluded.

Heartfelt tributes

Murkomen’s message joins a wave of tributes shared by national leaders and citizens alike, as Kenyans marked the annual celebration of Mother’s Day.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, in a statement posted on his social media pages, hailed mothers for their courage, love, and resilience.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all women who share in the creative nature of God and are mothers. On this great day and indeed all days of my life, I honour and respect you,” he wrote.

“For your resilience, energy, love, bravery, and for your sacrifice in raising us, I salute you. It takes courage and love to host human life in your bodies in the gift begotten unto you by God our Father; we pay homage to you unreservedly,” he added.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also paid tribute to mothers, calling them the “unsung architects of our future.”

“Today, I rise not from the Speaker’s Chair but from the depths of gratitude to honour the most graceful, enduring, and divine title on earth — Mother,” Wetang’ula wrote in a statement posted on X on May 11, 2025.

“Behind every strong nation stands an even stronger woman, a mother who prays in silence, sacrifices in secret, and loves with no condition,” he added.

Wetang’ula urged Kenyans to reflect on the impact of mothers in their lives and to celebrate their enduring influence.

“This Mother’s Day, may we all take a moment to honour and uplift the mothers among us, those present, those remembered, and those raising our tomorrow. To every mother in Kenya, you are the poetry in our Constitution, the heartbeat of our homes, and the soul of our Republic,” he stated.
