Kirui, Chesang lead standings to qualify for NCBA Golf final tee duel

Kitale’s finest rose to the occasion on Saturday as home duo Evans Kirui and Josephine Chesang delivered commanding performances to win the gross titles in the 2025 NCBA Golf Series, teeing up their return to the national grand finale stage.
Kirui, playing off handicap 11, fired a steady round of 81 to top the men’s gross leaderboard, while also claiming the Longest Drive title among men.
Chesang, a former Ladies Nett winner at the 2023 Grand Finale, carded 95 gross off handicap 23 to clinch top honours among the women.
Their strong performances headline a dominant display by Kitale-based golfers, with four others also qualifying for the season-ending tournament.
They include Michael Chege (handicap 24) and Josephine Njeri (handicap 22), who led Division II with 37 and 33 points, respectively, and Ann Atieno (handicap 27), who stood out in Division III after amassing 42 points.
In the juniors’ category, Carlos Wakoli (who won the same title in 2022) returned 27 points playing off handicap 20 to secure another berth at the grand finale.
The Kitale leg’s other standout performers included Mirriam Wanjiku, who claimed the Longest Drive prize for women, while Kennedy Soita and Gracemary Karira scooped Nearest to Pin honours.
Speaking at the prize ceremony, NCBA Deputy Director and Head of Brands Jacquie Muhati applauded the high standards displayed at Kitale, praising the club’s continued success in nurturing competitive players.
“Kitale Club’s impact on the national golf scene proves that talent is blossoming in all corners of the country. Through NCBA’s Change the Story initiative, we are breaking stereotypes and building pathways for future professionals. Our dream is to grow a formidable Kenyan golf team—and that journey is well underway,” she said.
With Kitale’s leg now complete, attention turns to the first regional double-header of the 2025 NCBA Golf Series, set for Saturday, June 14, at both Uganda Golf Club and Karen Country Club.
