This year’s CECAFA tournament carries added weight as it serves as a warm-up for the 2025 Africa Women Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) noted that the event is key to preparing CECAFA’s representative for the continental showdown. “The competition is aimed at preparing CECAFA’s representative for the upcoming 2025 Africa Women Cup of Nations,” FKF said in a statement on their website.
Uganda enters the tournament as defending champions, having stunned Burundi with a 3-1 victory in the 2024 final. Their resurgence has raised the stakes, with Kenya under pressure to rise to the occasion. The Starlets’ recent friendly against Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses was seen as a vital test run ahead of CECAFA.
As fans rally behind the Starlets online and on the ground, Kenya will be looking to capitalise on momentum and experience to make a strong statement in regional women’s football.
