Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has called on African youth to rally behind Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, in what he described as a battle against imperialism and foreign interference.

In a statement shared on his official Xaccount on Sunday, May 11, 2025, Amisi praised the Burkinabè leader for his bold leadership style and unwavering stand for African independence.

He described Traoré as a symbol of hope for the continent, especially for its young people.

Amisi remarked that Traoré is the only African allowed to meet top world leaders while openly carrying a pistol, a rare image that has come to represent his fearless nature.

He praised the 35-year-old leader as a mysterious yet powerful force and called on African youth to rally behind him in the fight against imperialism.

“The only African allowed to meet top world leaders while carrying a pistol. Captain Ibrahim Traore is an Enigma. Africa and african youths must stand with him and protect him against the evils of imperialism,” Amisi stated.

Popularity among youth

Captain Ibrahim Traoré became the president of Burkina Faso after a military takeover in 2022.

Since then, he has captured the imagination of many across Africa, especially young people, by taking a strong stand against Western powers and institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

What sets Traoré apart from many African leaders is his youth, confidence, and fearlessness. He challenges the status quo, and his direct approach resonates with young Africans who are tired of foreign interference and economic dependency. Many now see him as a fresh face in African politics.

Under his leadership, Burkina Faso has shifted focus to self-reliance. Public worker salaries have increased, food production has gone up, and the country is now investing more in processing its own natural resources rather than exporting them raw. These efforts are aimed at building a stronger and more independent economy.

In terms of foreign policy, Traoré has turned to Russia for both military and energy support. Russian fighters are now working alongside Burkinabè soldiers to strengthen national security and train local forces.

He has also expressed support for Russia on the global stage, including during the ongoing war in Ukraine, signaling a clear shift in Burkina Faso’s international alliances.

“By attending the grand parade and wreath laying ceremony on May 9, 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of Russia’s victory over Nazism, I pay tribute to the Soviet Army and Allied troops. This historic victory is a source of confidence for me in the wholehearted commitment of my country and the AES Confederation to winning the war against terrorism and imperialism at all costs,” Traore wrote on his X account after consultative meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

Adding

“The security of our States and the well-being of our populations drive and guide our daily actions. I welcome the mutually beneficial partnership between Burkina Faso and the Russian Federation.”
