Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his tours to vend his new outfit in the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua asserted his commitment to popularizing the DCP in his strongholds as he intensified efforts to consolidate his support base ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

Just hours after storming Kiambu County and calling for the rejection of Kenya Kwanza allies, Gachagua on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, toured parts of Kikuyu and Dagoretti South constituencies to cement his political vet.

Addressing his supporters on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Gachagua urged voters to vote for aspirants on the new DCP party in Kikuyu and Dagoretti South constituencies.

“I want you to ensure that you give me foot soldiers when you elect governors and MPs in 2027. Here in Kikuyu and Dagoretti South, I want new and loyal leaders elected under the DCP banner,” Gachagua told the crowd.

Accompanied by a host of aspirants eyeing parliamentary and gubernatorial seats in 2027, Gachagua rallied his supporters to ensure that all United Democratic Alliance-allied MPs and other leaders are voted out in the next election.

“It must be a clean sweep here in Dagoretti and Kikuyu. Those supporting UDA are not with us we must reject betrayal,” he declared.

Gachagua buckle up

The former DP elbowed the Kenya Kwanza allies, insisting they must be punished at the ballot box in 2027 for allegedly betraying the Mt Kenya region.

He emphasized that the United Opposition alliance will triumph in the upcoming elections and it will be issue-based like doing away with numerous taxes which the MPs have failed to tackle.

“Are you saying that those who betrayed our community must be shown the door in 2027? How many are saying the betrayers must be punished? Alright, now give me loyal soldiers,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua said he is pushing to increase the number of DCP-elected MPs and governors in 2027 as part of a broader strategy to challenge President Ruto’s reelection bid.

On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, Gachagua toured parts of Kiambu County shortly after chairing a meeting of the DCP National Executive Committee (NEC), the party’s top decision-making organ.

The NEC postponed the planned official launch of the party after failing to secure Kasarani Stadium for the June 3 function.

In a press statement, DCP said it would use the month of June to identify and settle on a new venue before notifying the public and supporters of their next move.
