Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has justified the union with Wiper Democratic Movement Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, terming it a coming together of the victims of political manipulations and deceit from the principals in the broad-based government.

Speaking during the opposition tour in Mazeras, Kilifi County, on Saturday, June 7, 2025, Gachagua recounted how he and Kalonzo have fallen victim to President William Ruto and his new partners in government, Raila Odinga.

He cited how Raila abandoned the former VP and the people of Ukambani and the coastal regions upon entering into a working pact with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on March 7, 2025.

Gachagua equally castigated Ruto for orchestrating a similar scheme of betrayal against him and the entire Mt. Kenya community.

“These people have used us for their advantage. Raila Odinga misused Kalonzo, the people from the coast, and their votes. When he entered the broad-based government with Ruto. Did he go with you? He went in all by himself,” he said.

Taken advantage of

“Kasongo has also used me and the people of the Mountain to his own advantage. Now, the people who have been taking advantage of others have united. We also have to join forces, all of those who have been victimised by these people. The fools have now grown wiser, and those who thought they were wise are now troubled,” he declared.

He also doubled down on his criticism of Ruto’s administration, citing its complicity in looting public assets.

He warned the people of the dire consequences of getting another term in office.

“We have an immense task ahead of us. He (Ruto) is now discussing how to sell the Mombasa Port. In Taita Taveta, he has grabbed all the land. If we don’t get him out, he will auction the whole country and later come to your household to sell your personal belongings,” he told the gathering at Mazeras.

Gachagua also made explosive claims about the misuse of National Social Security Fund (NSSF) resources, accusing key figures of corruption and mismanagement.

He claimed that the NSSF funds, meant for workers’ retirement, are being diverted to infrastructure projects and questionable deals, including a 99-year lease of Bomas of Kenya to an Indian investor.

“NSSF hiyo pesa Kasongo amepanga, ametoa hiyo pesa kinyume na sheria,” Gachagua said, his voice ringing with indignation.

Translated, he meant: “That NSSF money, Kasongo has planned it, he has taken that money illegally.”

He went on to say that the funds are being used to bankroll the construction of the Mau Summit-Rironi highway, a major infrastructure project set to begin in June and expected to be completed by June 2027.
