The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Women’s Volleyball Team has sealed their place in the Kenya Volleyball National playoffs final after a stunning win over Kenya Prison on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in Mombasa.

DCI downed Prisons 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Makande Indoor Arena to seal the Game 2 victory over Josp Barasa’s team and secure their place in the women’s final.

Patrick Sang’s charges, who started the tie from an advantageous front following their game 1 victory on Friday, went for the jugular quickly and clinched the first two sets 25-22 and 25-21, respectively.

Prompted for a response, Prisons Kenya hit back in the third and fourth sets with commanding displays, winning 25-16 and 25-17, thus forcing Game 2 to a dramatic fifth-set decider.

The new kids on the block, DCI, composed themselves to claim an early 6-1 romp, prompting an early timeout by Prisons coach Barasa.

The timeout returned the prisons’ prospects for a comeback, but it is DCI who outlasted their rivals by hitting the winning mark of 15 to clinch the decisive tiebreaker.

Reactions from coaches

Speaking to KVF after the surprise exit, Barasa said his charges now shift focus to redeeming themselves in the third-place playoffs.

“We tried our best, but luck was not on our side. Blocking has been our strong point, but it did not work for us today. We now focus on rectifying our mistakes and see if we can win the third-place playoff,“ he said.

On his part, the triumphant coach Sang hailed the winning display of his team as he laid down their targets to clinch the National League title.

“I must appreciate the ladies for the tactical game and the dedication they showed. We promised that this season we will have a gold medal, and next month we start our preparations for the finals,” he stated.

“ I’m happy for the support we got from the DCI. Their support has been a factor in this result, and we promise to fight hard to attain the target,” he posited.

The Investigations Agency team will now face the winner between Kenya Pipeline and the defending champions, KCB Women’s Volleyball Team, in the finals in Nairobi.

KCB trails Pipeline after losing the first of the best-of-three game on Friday, May 23, 2025, meeting on a 3-1 set defeat.
