Mwaura says arrests will continue, justifies govt intervention

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has declared that the Kenya Kwanza government will continue to make arrests of persons who violate the law of the land.
Speaking on Monday, May 19, 2025, during an interactive session after an address to the nation, Mwaura termed the recent crackdown on political figures as a lawful procedure.
He maintained that the authorities will not relent in their commitment and duty to maintain law and order.
“The government will not stop arresting people. It will make arrests as per the provisions of the law. Anyone inciting Kenyans will be arrested. That is the position of the government. Nobody is above the law. You have seen on social media people going there to seek cheap publicity,”
The arrests have been lawful, and they will continue. Even people talking of cases of abductions that have been happening before have been lawful and had warrants of arrest issued. If there is a warrant of arrest against you, you should be arrested,” Mwaura clarified.

The spokesperson absolved the government of blame regarding the crackdown, emphasising that the state will not spare persons holding prominent positions.
“The government should not be held hostage simply because some individuals have followers. Even the government has followers. In fact, we are all followers of Kenya, and we should be protected at all costs. We have no other home than this one,” he added.
Mwaura’s comments come amid what has been construed as an ongoing crackdown by security officers targeting high-profile politicians in the country.
The events began on Sunday, May 18. 2025, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s home in Wamunyoro and Karen being raided
According to information from Njiru Ndegwa, officers believed to be from the DCI took over the former DP’s residence in what was an attempt to arrest the politician.
Meanwhile, a heavy contingent of security officers was reported to camp in the residence of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natemebeya in the early morning hours of Monday, May 19, 2025.

In a statement, the Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) said plainclothes officers, some masked, forcefully entered the governor’s Kitale residence in the early hours of the morning.
“A heavy contingent of police officers in plain clothes, well masked, have gained access to Governor George Natembeya’s home. Such Moi-era tactics won’t work in today’s Kenya. Stop using security apparatus to settle political scores,” the party said.
The scene prompted the interest of the public, who intervened in protest, blocking the entrance in a bid to prevent the governor’s arrest.
